Grgich Hills Cellar

Grgich Hills Cellar was founded in 1977 by Mike Grgich and Austin Hills. The previous year Grgich had stunned the world when his 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was chosen as the best Chardonnay in the world by French judges in Paris. So began the fame of Napa Valley. Grgich also prides itself on producing the most natural wine possible, biodynamically farming their vineyards and using solar power they generate onsite. In 1996 Grgich sent a UC Davis professor to his native Croatia in search of Zinfandel's parentage, and sure enough the Crljenak grape turned out to be it. The winery has since started operations there as well. $10 Tasting fee includes a wineglass.
