Portugal

Cultivation Vitis vinifera has taken place in Portugal since the days of the Phonecians. The country is also home to the oldest appellation system in the world, dating from 1758. To fall in line with European Union Standards the Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC) system was established upon ascension in 1986.
