Casteller is a DOC was established 3 May 1974 in the Italian province of Trento. This red wine is made from at least 80% Schiava Grossa, Schiava Gentile and Lambrusco a foglia frastagliata with the remainder being Merlot, Lagrein and Teroldego. All the grapes must be grown at altitudes of less than 600 meters and the wine must have a minimum 10.5% alcohol, or 11.5% to be labeled Superiore.
