Barbera d'Asti

Piemonte

Barbera d'Asti is produced in the Alessandria and Asti provinces of Piemonte and is made from mostly the Barbera grape, but as much as 15% of the varietals Freisa, Grignolino and Dolcetto are also allowed. It was declared a DOC on 9 January 1970. A year of age and 12.5% alcohol qualifies this wine to be labeled Superiore, but without that disctinction it only needs 12% alcohol.
