Dolcetto d'Alba was granted DOC status on 6 July 1974. It is a red wine grown in the Asti and Cuneo provinces of the Piemonte region. The Dolcetto grape is the only one used in its vinification. As a wine, it must contain a minimum 11.5%, or 12.5% plus one year of aging to be labeled Superiore.
