Asti, sometimes called Asti Spumante because of its foaming nature, is a sparkling white wine grown in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria in the Piemonte region. The sole grape used is the Moscato Canelli. The area was granted DOC status on 9 July 1967 and raised to a DOCG on 29 November 1993. 12% alcohol is required.

Moscato d'Asti is also technically part of this appellation.
