Vini di Italia
Cultivation Vitis vinifera was introduced into the Italian peninsula by the Ancient Greeks and has been cultivated there for millenia. Today Italians have four classifications for their wines:
Vino da Tavola - wines made from grapes grown in Italy (table wines)
Indicazione Geografica Tipica - wines made from non-traditional regions and/or by non-traditional methods and often with international varietals (list)
Denominazione di Origine Controllata - wines from specific appellations using the traditional methodology and grapes of that terrior (list)
Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - wines from the previous catagory that also pass a blind taste test for quality (list)
