Cultivation of Vitis vinifera takes place in French Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), a government mandated regulation of the terrior, in Languedoc-Roussillon. However, varietal wines labelled merely as from France can include grapes from several AOCs. The region is also home to several Vin de Pays table wines.
