The Wines of Deutschland
in vino veritas
Cultivation Vitis vinifera has taken place in Germany since the days of the Roman Empire. Today there are 13 quality
Weinbaugebiete (winegrowing
regions) located in 7 of the 16 Bundesländer, especially along the Rhine river and its tributaries. Like all EU countries there are several grades
of wine:
Tafelwein - table wine usually drunken locally.

Landwein - wine from specific regions using non-traditional methods and/or varietals.
